A lovely signed copy of Clare Leighton's best known and first work, The Farmer's Year. With twelve full page illustrations by Leighton, collated and complete. Signed by the author to the front free endpaper. In this attractive volume, Leighton complements each engraving with a description of contemporary English agricultural life. The pencil inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper reads, 'To Barbara From Daddy. February 28, 1955'. Beneath it to the left, Clare Leighton has inscribed in ink, 'And to Barbara, on first meeting her, this book from so long ago: in friendship from Clare Leighton'. Found in the price-clipped dust wrapper.

Condition

In the publisher's original green cloth binding, in the price clipped dust wrapper. Externally rather smart. Very lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine, with some discolouration of the the cloth towards the top and bottom edges of the boards. Lightly bumped to the head of the spine, more so to the tail which has lost a little cloth. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout.
