First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

First edition, in the original unclipped dustwrapper.

An anthology about 'The English Vision', with writings 'expressed by representative Englishmen', such as D. H. Lawrence, William Wordsworth, William Hazlitt, and John Ruskin. 

Content headings include essays on 'Landscape', 'Upbringing', 'Historical Ideals', and 'National Temper' that were said to be representative of English culture. 

Herbert Read (1893-1968) was an English art historian, poet, and literary critic, who helped to co-found the Institute of Contemporary Arts. He was also one of the Earliest English writers to take notice of the existentialist movement. 

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Cloth is bright, except for a bit of fading around margins and spine. Very light wear to extremities and light bumps to head and tail of spine. A bit of spotting to text block. Paste downs are a bit age-toned with the odd spot. Prior owner's ink inscription on front endpaper. Dust wrapper has minimal edge wear to wraps, with a bit of chipping around spine that has resulted in a little loss. Wraps are age-toned with a bit of spotting on both sides of wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and very clean throughout, with a bit of age-toning to margins.
