What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Folding Plates, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

A very scarce work authored and illustrated by engineer Sir Bernard D'olier Darley, concerning the design and construction of the Sarda Canal, also known as the Sharda Canal, the last major British irrigation project completed in the United Provinces of India.

Illustrated with two large folding plates, each containing a number of technical diagrams regarding the engineering of the canal.

Darley discusses, amongst other topics, the estimated cost of the scheme, the clearing of the jungle, the necessary machinery, surface drainage, mechanical excavation, the Jagbura siphon and the Deoha river barrage.

This work also contains an excerpt of proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Vol. 233, Session 1931-1932, Part I. This is a very scarce publication from the Institution, the first professional engineering body formed in the early nineteenth century, and one of many works published by them.

From the library of Frederic Newhouse (1883-1969), sometime inspector-general of Egyptian irrigation in the Sudan, and with his contemporary inscription to the head of the front wraps, dated 1933.
