1933 Inchmahome and the Lake of Menteith
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The first edition of this privately printed work of photography, one of 500 copies produced.
The title refers to Inchmahome, an anglicisation of Innis Mo Cholmaig, the largest of three islands in the Lake of Menteith, in Stirlingshire.
In his introduction, photographer and author John A. Stewart explains that during regular visits to the location he undertook a project of creating a 'faithful record rather than pictorial impressions' of the loch and priory of Inchmahome.
Stewart also explains that many of these photographs were taken prior to a government funded restoration of the area, and therefore provide an important record of the area prior to preservative measured.
With a colour frontispiece, numerous photographic plates, and a brief historic account of the area, and the noble families who have resided there.
With the former owner's inscription 'Peter Johnson' to the front free endpaper.
Condition
