What Our Customers Say...

Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The text of this edition has been edited by Stuart Gilbert, with assistance from Joyce. Therefore this work is one of the most important lifetime printings of Ulysses.  This is the first revised edition of Ulysses, and was issued exclusively in Hamburg.

Preserved in a later slipcase.

Prior owner's inscription to the half-title of both volumes: 'D C C 1933'.

Pencil inscription to the half title of volume I indicating which edition this is.

Ulysses is an incredibly influential novel, and is a major work in the modernist canon.  First serialized in the American journal 'The Little Review' before being published in its entirety by Sylvia Beach in Paris. A parallel of Homer's epic 'The Odyssey', Joyce's novel is set in 20th century Ireland and explores the relationship of the country's relationship with Britain. A beloved work by many, T.S Eliot referred to 'Ulysses' as being 'a book to which we are all indebted, and from which none of us can escape'.

An important, and beautifully preserved first Hamburg edition of this groundbreaking novel.
