In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. With Ackermann Galleries Sporting Pictures & Prints stamped in gilt to the rear board.
A wonderful selection of small biographies, detailing the backgrounds, successes and other key facts about an array of trainers, owners, jockeys, breeders and others involved in racing.
Compiled by John Fairfax-Blakeborough, an English writer, folklorist and author of over a hundred books on the history of horse racing, Yorkshire folklore and the Cleveland Bay.
With seven leaves of advertisements to the beginning of the work and a monochrome frontispiece. With a leaf of advertisements to the rear, as well as to the pastedowns.
Condition
In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart, with fading to the spine and parts of the boards. Rubbing and bumping to the extremities and the odd mark. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot. With the bookplate of Richard Green to the front free endpaper, covering a portion of the advertisement to that page. Small ink inscription to the front pastedown.
