A very scarce study of an ancient subterranean aqueduct found west of the Egyptian city of Marsa Matruh, found on the country's Mediterranean coast. This work is paper no. 42 from the Egyptian Ministry of Finance's 'Survey of Egypt'.
The author of this work, G. F. Walpole, explains that his directive was to 'make all possible investigations into the amount of water available, the source, and the permanency or otherwise of the supply'.
Illustrated with seven plates, five of which are folding, and four of which are in colour. Collated, complete.
These plates include geological diagrams, plans of the aqueduct and maps of the region.
Issued under the British Occupation period, this title was published as a part of a series of reports commissioned by the 'Ministry of Finance, Egypt', issued during the British Occupation Period.
From the library of Frederic Newhouse (1883-1969), sometime inspector-general of Egyptian irrigation in the Sudan, and with his contemporary inscription to the head of the front wrap, dated 1933.
Condition
In the publisher's original paper wraps. Light spotting to front wrap, with contemporary inscription to head of wrap, and a loss to the paper here also. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to first few pages, pages otherwise clean and bright.
