This is copy number twenty nine of 980 printed.
The novel was first published and serialised in newspapers in 1894 and then published in full in 1895. The plot centres on the American Civil War and the experiences of a young private of the Union Army.
With monochrome illustrations throughout the text by Valenti Angelo, an Italian-American illustrator and printmaker.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. There is some loss to the dust wrapper, to the back board and the head and tail of the spine, and small loss to the extremities. Externally, very smart. There is some light bumping to the head and tail pf the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean.
