Volume I presents Burns's correspondences from between 1780 and 1789, while volume II covers Burns's letters between 1790 and 1796.
Edited from the original manuscripts by American academic John DeLancey Ferguson.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with price clipped dust wrappers. Bumping to back strip heads and tails. Significant bump to tail of volume I front board. Repaired tear to volume I rear board, penetrating through to pastedown. Dust wrappers age toned to back strips, with discolouration and handling marks to wraps. Hole over rear joint of volume I. Volume I lacking rear flyleaf. Repaired tears to front wrap of volume II. Significant tape repairs to dust wrapper reverses. Pencil inscriptions to volume I front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. A number of leaves unopened to fore edges.
