In the publisher's original cloth bidning, with gilt detail to the spine and front board. Lacking the original dustwrapper. Translated from the original French into English by Lafcadio Hearn. The first novel by the french author Anatole France. Having before been regarded primarily as a poet this work of prose established France as a important and versatile author. In this work charts the story of Sylvestre Bonnard, and his friendship with the young girl, Jeanne. This volume features illustration by the notable book illustrator, Zhenya Gay. Preivous owners bookplate to the reverse of the front endpaper, 'K. W. C. Down'.

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. With light rubbing to the extremities. Small mark to the tail of the front board towards the fore edge. Previous owners bookplate to the reverse of the front endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
