A wordless novel by American artist Lynd Ward, relaying the Faustian tale of an artist who signs away his soul for a magic paintbrush.

The tale is told with a series of one-hundred-and-thirty-nine captionless woodcuts.

This was the first American novel told with no words, and is regarded as a precursor of the graphic novel.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards. Bumping to back strip tail. Spine label age toned. Light rubbing to board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
