Description

First Edition

A first edition of the two volume set of Captain Browne's history of horse racing in England between 1904 and 1930. Supplementary to the History of English Turf by Sir T. A. Cook, of whom the volumes are dedicated, and who is depicted in the portrait frontispiece of volume one. Richly illustrated with plates: 74 photographs in volume one and 82 photographs in volume two, including frontispieces. Collated complete. With a 1989 photograph from the previous owner loosely inserted between 214 and 215.

Condition

In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with some small staining to the front board of volume one, and to both boards of volume two. Slight sunning to the spine of volume one, otherwise colour is good and gilt is bright. Internally, volume one is firmly bound. Binding of volume two is strained in places. Light spots to the fore edges of both volumes, affecting the occasional page.
