Description

Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

Twenty eight volumes of this limited edition set of the works of Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist George Bernard Shaw. Only one thousand and twenty-five copies were printed in this limited edition set. The leading dramatist of his generation, the prolific writer George Bernard Shaw produced over sixty plays, several novels, and many articles of theatre and music criticism. Shaw's novels and short stories can be found in volumes 2 to 6, followed by six volumes of plays (CHECK) including major works such as Pygmalion and Saint Joan. This is followed by his war polemic, What I really Wrote About the War, in which his activism really comes to the fore. The set also contains three volumes of theatre criticism, and three volumes of music criticism. Lacking volumes 1, 12, and 31 to 33.

Condition

In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. All volumes are a little discoloured to the spine, and some of the volumes are a little rubbed to the spine. Volumes 6 and 20 are a little bumped to the head of the spines, and there is a tiny loss of cloth to the former. Volumes 8, 14, 17, 20 and 23 are lightly bumped at the tail of the spine, with a tiny loss of cloth to volume 17, and a small closed tear at the tail of volume 23. Volume 29 is bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a small closed tear to the head, and two white marks to the rear board. The cloth has split at the joint of volume 30, which is rubbed to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Very lightly foxed to the endpapers, but pages are otherwise bright and clean throughout.
