1930 Mario und der Zauberer
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
'Mario und der Zauberer', or 'Mario and the Magician' was written in 1929, and tells of a family holiday to a fictional seaside town in Italy, where they encounter a hypnotist and sorcerer who uses his powers to control his audience, an allegory for authoritarian leaders taking over Europe at the time.
This work is rather political for Mann in its open critique of fascism; he would later be exiled to Switzerland on account of his criticism of fascism after Hitler gained power.
This is the first edition of this work, written in its original German.
