This is the 'Popular Edition' with 'My Skirmish with Jolly Roger' which was included for the first time in this edition.  This essay discusses Lady Chatterley and Lawrence addresses the issues with piracy the book faced abroad and in Europe. He also defends the content of the work, which was a topic of contention. 

This is Lawrence's unabridged edition, published privately. It was printed in Paris at the Lecram Press and is therefore believed to be the second Paris edition. 

In the publisher's original paper wraps, with the phoenix vignette to the front wrap. 

Lady Chatterley's lover was a controversial text upon its initial release and had to be heavily censored. Penguin books published the unexpurgated edition in Britain in 1960 which led to the trial of Penguin under the Obscene Publications act of 1959. Originating from events in Lawrence's own domestic life, the tale is set in Nottinghamshire and follows the 'inappropriate' relationship between a working-class man and upper-class woman. 

A well preserved, early edition of this culturally important novel.
