A signed presentation copy of the second edition of E.A.T. Dutton's account of his trip up Mount Kenya in 1926, first published in 1929.
With the inscription: 'To Captain Gilchrist, in return for many kindnesses, from E. A. T. Dutton, October 1930' to the front pastedown.
Illustrated with fifty-six collotype photographic plates, three sketch maps, and with a folding colour map to the rear detailing Mount Kenya topography and Dutton and Melhuish's route in 1926. Collated, complete.
This fascinating work details the unsuccessful attempt of the two men to climb the second highest peak in Africa, and is notable for detailing the geography, flora and fauna, and early climbing history of the mountain, which had first been successfully summited by Halford Mackinder in 1899.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading to back strip and perimeters of front board. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Author's inscription to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
