What Our Customers Say...
Description
Fine Binding, First Edition, Leather Binding, Signed Binding
A first edition of Horace Round's final genealogical work. Although Round had hoped to bring out two volumes before his death, he was only able to publish these genealogical papers on the origins of the Cavendishes, Churchills, Walpoles, and several other families. The work was edited by Round's friend William Page, who provides a thorough bibliography and a brief memoir of Round. Round was a historian and genealogist of the Medieval period, and was responsible for translating the portion of the Domesday book covering Essex. The binding is signed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe beneath the front pastedown. Famed for their luxurious jewelled bindings that used real gold and precious stones, Sangorski and Sutcliffe was one of the most important bookbinding companies of 20th century and has been undergoing a revival since it was bought by Asprey in 1998. With crest of the Oppenheimer's to the front board. The Oppenheimer Baronetcy of Buckingham was created in 1921 for Bernard Oppenheimer, Chairman of the South African Diamond Corporation. The title became extinct in 202 with the death of the third baronet.
