First trade edition. Issued the same time as a limited, signed edition. Illustrated throughout with numerous, lovely designs by popular illustrator, Rex Whistler. Whistler dominated the art world at the start of the twentieth century. He created many designs for large establishments such as Wedgwood china, the Radio Times and Shell Petroleum. This work explores the use of desert islands in many works of fiction such as 'Robinson Crusoe', 'The Man in the Moon', 'Gulliver's Travels' and more.
Condition
In the original blue cloth binding with gilt detail to front board and spine. Externally very smart with slight bumping to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Fading to the spine and rear board as is common with this work. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with marginal age toning and the odd spot slightly heavier to the first and last few pages.
