In the publisher's original paper wraps. 

Illustrations include one full-page illustration of Henry Williamson by Powys Evans. 

This is the march issue of the 'London Mercury' literary magazine, published in 1929. 'London Mercury' published a variety of serious contemporary literature, and often included contributions by Robert Frost, Hilaire Belloc, Virginia Woolf, and many others. 

Contents of this issue includes editorial notes, which reports on current events of the time such as 'Frost Fairs' held on the Thames, censorship, and The State of the Theatre'. 

This is followed by poetry and essays like 'Temple at Paestum' by Ida Graves, 'Station B-U-N-K' by H. Le B. Bercovici, 'Amabel's Aunt' by Eileen H. A. Squire, and 'Last Essays' by C. E. Montague. 

Edited by J. C. Squire (1884-1958), a British author who was said to antagonise several popular authors, but still 'attracted a coterie that was dubbed the Squirearchy'. 

With sixteen pages of publisher's adverts to the front of text as well as adverts to the reverse of paper wraps. 

Collated complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, with edge wear to the extremities and the spine, with the beginning of loss to both the head and tail of spine. Residue left by sticker to front wraps as well as prior owner's pencil inscription, which has been erased but is still lightly visible. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins of text.
