'The Bloomsbury Wonder', by Thomas Burke.

'The Ladder', by Vernon Knowles. Illustrated with a frontispiece by Eric Bailey.

'The Bushwhackers', by P. R. Stephensen.

Published by the Mandrake Press, a small British press that was founded by Edward Goldston and P. R. Stephensen in 1929. The company ran into financial issues in 1930, leading to a consortium led by the occultist Aleister Crowley formed Mandrake Press LTD. The consortium was also unsuccessful and the press was dissolved in 1930. During their short publishing run the press published over thirty items, including works by D. H. Lawrence, Giovanni Boccaccio Cecil Roth, and more.

Condition

In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding, with paper-covered boards, in the original unclipped dustwrappers. Externally, smart. A couple of faint marks to the spines. Dustwrappers with minor edgewear and some light marks. Dustwrappers are a little discoloured. 'The Bloomsbury Wonder' dustwrapper with a closed tear to the front joint, and a small tape repair to the reverse. Tidemark to the rear wrap of 'The Bushwhackers'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
