Scarce complete twelve volume set, containing the 1928 to 1940 issues of 'The New Flora and Silva'.

Illustrations include various illustrated plates throughout the volumes, depicting relevant flower and plant species. 

This is the complete twelve volume set of the 'New Flora and Silva' gardening publication, containing all of the issues from 1928 to 1940. These volumes were issued yearly, and contain all of the monthly issues from the previous year. 

Vol I (1929) contains ninety-four illustrated plates, Vol II (1930) contains one-hundred and four illustrations, Vol III (1931) contains one-hundred and one illustrations, Vol IV (1932) contains one-hundred and three illustrations, Vol V (1933) contains one-hundred illustrations, Vol VI (1934) contains one-hundred and three illustrations, Vol VII (1935) contains ninety-two illustrations, Vol VIII (1936) contains one-hundred illustrations, Vol IX (1937) contains eighty-eight illustrations, some of which are coloured, Vol X (1938) contains ninety-six illustrations, Vol XI (1939) contains one-hundred and five illustrations, and Vol XII (1940) contains eighty-one illustrations. These illustrations are all shown on illustrated plates. 

Edited by Euan Hillhouse Methven Cox (1893-1977) was a Scottish plant collector and botanist. He accompanied Reginald Farrer, the author of 'My Rock Garden', on his last botanical expedition to Burma in 1919. He was a very successful propagator of flowers, particularly rhododendrons, and formed a commercial nursery that was later run by his son and grandson. 

Contains all of the publisher's adverts for each monthly publication to rear of volumes. 

Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minimal bumping to the extremities and spine, with light fading to the spine, particularly Volumes I to VI. A few marks to boards. Light spotting to text block. Offsetting to the endpapers of Vol VI. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with light age-toning to margins of text and light spotting particularly to the first and last few pages.
