Complete in two volumes. First edition. Limited to five hundred copies of which this is number three hundred and forty-five. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrappers. Volume one is illustrated with a colour frontispiece and thirty-five figures in the text. Volume two is illustrated with one hundred and sixty-seven plates. Collated complete. A historical account of the art of glass across England and Ireland from the thirteenth century to the Repeal of the Excise Duties in 1845. With reference to considerable records in research of both economy and design. Written by W. A. Thorpe, a British author and art historian, for the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing to the extremities. Damp stains and light fading to the boards. Original unclipped dust wrappers are also smart with light wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small mark to the panels. The odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting to the first and last few pages with minor age toning to the endpapers. Some of the text block remains unopened.
