What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Maps, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

This is the thin-paper edition, in one volume. Despite this, it remains complete and unabridged. Illustrated, with a frontispiece, five folding plates, and a large folding map to the rear. In addition to this there are several full page illustrations and vignettes. 'Travels in Arabia Deserta' became a touchstone of ambitious travel writing. It grew in popularity following T.E Lawrence's discovery of the work, as he pushed for it to be republished in the 1920's. It follows Doughty's treks through Arabian deserts, and is written in a style based on the King James Bible.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, sound. Loss to the cloth at the head and tail of spine. A few light marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Small closed tear to the gutter of the map at the rear of the volume. Just the odd spot.
