Illustrated

'King Lear' is a Shakespearian tragedy, inspired by the mythological King Leir of Britain. The text here is a facsimile from the First Folio held at the Grenville Library at the British Museum.

Undated; dated from copies on Jisc.

With five loosely inserted hand-illustrated original plates in monochrome by Carlo Pietzner, an artist, educator and co-founder of Camphill. His artworks were expressionist in nature; he taught art and created art retreats.

Title page has been adapted by Pietzner to include his name.

With a loosely inserted First Folio line indicator.

A unique edition of this popular Shakespearian play, with custom-made original illustrations by an Austrian-born artist.

Condition

In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with the front joint starting at the tail of the spine and a little wear to the head of the spine and extremities. Pencil inscription by Pietzner to the front pastedown, gift inscription to the front endpaper and inscription in the same hand to the verso. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
