What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Limited Edition

'Peter Porcupine' was a pseudonym used by Cobbett for his controversial political writings and pamphlets. With an illustrated frontispiece, hand coloured through stencils. With an introduction by G D H Cole. Limited edition, number 396 of 1800 copies printed for sale. Published by the Nonesuch Press. The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were founded by Francis Meynell, his second wife Vera Mendel and their friend David Garnett. Their aspiration was for their publications to be aligned with the same aesthetic standards as the private press movement. They were unusual as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices.

Condition

In a quarter cloth binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, generally smart with bumping to the head and tail of spine. Patches of rubbing to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Offsetting to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned due to paper used. Several gatherings to the start and end of the work remain uncut to the head of pages. Just the odd light spot.
