A biography on the life and work of the noted French Post-Impressionist painter, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Toulouse-Lautrec was a well beloved painter of the nineteenth century, immersed in the life of Parisian theatres, from which he drew inspiration, painting scences of the decadent and modern affairs of the era.
Written by Maurice Joyant. Joyand was the manager of Boussod, Valadon et Cie in Paris, and was a lifelong friend of Toulouse-Lautrec, who he met at the Lycee Fontanes in 1872. Joyant was also the nephew of the painter Jules-Romain Joyant.
Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Mildred Josephine Eckers'.
Condition
In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, front wrap is detached but present. Lifting and some loss to the head and tail of the spine. A very small amount of loss to the edge of the front wrap. Minor marks to the wraps. Internally, generally firmly bound, and the first gathering is working loose. Pages are bright and clean.
