Beardsley was a leading illustrator of the late twentieth century, beginning a promising career was a Modern Style artist before his early death at the age of 25. He was largely influenced by Japanese woodcuts, and depicted scenes of the erotic, grotesque, and decadent.
By Haldane MacFall, an authoritative art critic. MacFall was friends with Beardsley, and ardently defended him in this work.

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages a lightly age toned to the margins and clean.
