Description

The Adelphi edition. Complete in seven volumes. All volumes are first thus, with the exception of 'Mansfield Park', 'Pride and Prejudice', and, 'Lady Susan and The Watsons', which are second impression. Rare to see uniformly bound in the publisher's original full cloth binding with gilt lettering. Each volume is complete with it's half title page. This set comprises of: "Sense and Sensibility", one of Austen's most famous works, this novel follows the lives of the three Dashwood sisters as they are forced to move from their childhood estate, in search of a new home. "Pride and Prejudice", Austen's famous novel of manners. The story follows Elizabeth Bennett as she learns the difference between superficial goodness and genuine goodness. This work is one of the most popular novels in English literature, having sold over twenty million copies worldwide. "Mansfield Park", the third novel by Austen, following the life of Fanny Price. An interesting novel exploring concepts such as religion and slavery. "Emma", set in the fictional village of Highbury, this work explores the youthful drama and romantic misunderstandings of a group of families. "Northanger Abbey", a coming-of-age novel about Catherine Morland, as she journeys to better understand herself. "Persuasion", Austen's final novel, published posthumously. The story follows Anne Elliot whose family rents their home to an admiral and his wife. "Lady Susan and The Watsons", Austen's lesser known works, the short epistolary novel Lady Susan and the abandoned novel The Watsons. Lady Susan is considered one of Austen's most unique works, differing in style and substance from her other works, with a more aggressive and manipulative central figure.
