The Gresham Dictionary was published from the 1910s by the Gresham Publishing Co, founded by Blackie & Son Ltd. It was a subscription-based trade, selling mostly scientific, technical and reference works including the Gresham Encyclopedia and The New Popular Encyclopedia as well as this title. It continued trading until 1948, with branches in most major UK cities as well as in Canada and India.

Contains a gift inscription dated May 9th 1927: 'To Daddy, with fondest love and best wishes for his birthday from Mummy & the children.'

With sixteen plates of colour maps bound to the rear, and thirty-two plates through the dictionary itself.

Contains addenda with a list of American and British writers, pronunciation, words, phrases and sayings from Latin, Greek and modern European languages, abbreviations commonly used in literature, currency, weights and measures, signs and symbols, historic events in chronological order and a diary of the Great World War.
