First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition stated of this work. One of the very few books detailing the exploration of Tristan da Cunha, a remote group of volcanic islands in the south Atlantic Ocean. To this day, there is no airstrip on the main island, the only way to travel in and out of Tristan is by boat, a six day trip from South Africa. 

 With a map and twenty six illustrations. Pasted to front free endpaper, an article on the then upcoming expedition to Tristan.

Condition

In the original publisher's red cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally very smart, with minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine, as well as extremities. Cloth has slightly faded to edges of front and read boards as well as spine. A newspaper column pasted to front free endpaper, detailing the then upcoming missionary trip to Tristan da Cunha, undated. Inscribed by previous owners to title page, dated 1926. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean throughout, with the occasional faint odd spot to the gutters. With a map and twenty four illustrations.
