This narrative work was written by the notable English poet and journalist, Edwin Arnold and is often regarded as being one of the primary works that introduced Buddhism to a Western readership, where the religion had previously been relatively unknown. With an introduction by Sir E. Denison Ross, an orientalist and linguist who specialised in the languages of the Far East. One of a limited 3000 copies. This copy is unnumbered. Beautifully illustrated with sixteen coloured plates by Hamzeh Carr.
Condition
In a cloth binding with portrait detail to front board. Externally, smart with bumping and light fading to the spine. Ink inscription to front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright with scattered light spotting, mostly marginal. Occasional heavier patches of handling marks and spotting.
