The first trade edition. Published the same year as a signed limited edition by the same publishers. 

Illustrated by Lionel Edwards with a colour frontispiece, monochrome vignettes and 15 colour plates. Collated complete. Lionel Edwards was British painter who specialised in painting hunting scenes and British country life. His work was frequently featured in books on hunting, such as this one, and in popular magazines such as 'Country Life' and 'The Sphere'. 

This work on fox hunting was written by 'Sabretache' (a pseudonym for Albert Stewart Barrow). Sabretache wrote many works on the subject of hunting including 'Hunting the Fox' and 'A Gentleman and his Hounds'. This work focuses on the subject of hunting hounds, discussing various hunting parties and hound breeds from different areas across Britain, including the deerhound.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Original plate tissue guards retained. Externally very smart with bumping and light rubbing to the extremities, slight fading to the spine, the odd minor mark to the boards and very small closed tears to the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Bookplate belonging to a 'Robert Clayton Swan' to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound with generally clean and lightly age toned pages with the odd spot.
