First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding
The first edition of this biography. In the original French. Written by the French writer and critic, Saint-Rene Taillandier. Prior owner's inscription to the front endpaper, Katherine Leeds. This is likely the inscription of Lady KAtherine Frances LAmbton, who was married to the 10th Duke of Leeds. Part of the Figures du Passe series Marie Anne spent most of her life as an agent of French influence around Europe. She played a central role during the first years of Philip V's reign in the Spanin.
Condition
In a half vellum binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. A few light marks to the vellum. Small split to the head of front joint. Prior owner's inscription to the verso of front endpaper, Katherine Leeds, Selva Dolce. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned, due to paper used. Chips to the edges of the final two leaves. Just the odd spot to pages.
