What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Original Binding, Very Scarce
A marvellous book about the celebrated tennis tournament, documenting key matches and moments from the tournament's inception in 1877, up to the time of publication. Complete with 85 illustrations. As well as some introductory comments about lawn tennis, the establishment of the competition, and its rules, the volume offers a review of key players, referees, and matches across the 50 year period, with a listing of the champions and the match scores to the rear. The illustrations are particularly excellent, and allow the reader to trace the changes in sartorial rules over the half century. To the rear, there is a contemporary form for sending copies to friends.
Condition
In the original binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with some light wear to the extremities. The cloth is beginning to peel away at the front joint and is ripped at the rear joint to the tail of the spine. The rear joint is therefore starting, but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the gutter exposed at page 17. Very lightly foxed to the first and last few pages, but pages are otherwise clean and bright.
