This edition of Lord Byron's narrative poem is illustrated by numerous in-text illustrations and seventeen plates in John Austen's distinctive Art Deco style. Collated and complete. Lord Byron's satirical poem portrays the Spanish folk legend of Don Juan, but rather than portray him as a womaniser as is traditional, Byron depicts the character as a victim who is easily seduced by women. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. This volume is from the library of Henry Nelson, the seventh Earl. Born in Northampton, Nelson served in both the First and Second World War, and lived out his days as a tea planter in Madeira. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown, 'Anthony Turner, Manchester, 4th October 1979'. Beneath the Nelson's bookplate, Turner has written some information about the book's history: 'A copy was sold by Davien Books for £10 in either 1973 or 1974. I first saw a copy in the English literature bookcase at Repton School (1971).
