Decorative Binding, Illustrated, Pleasing Copy, Uncommon
This copy of 'Comus' has been edited from the 1645 edition and the autograph manuscript. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, Ruthven Todd. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown, The Davenant Bookshop. With a preface by Darrell Figgis. Figgis was an Irish writer. Three hundred copies of this work were printed as stated to the colophon at the rear. Printed for Julian Editions at the University press in Cambridge. 'Comus' was first presented on Michaelmas in 1634 before John Egerton. It was first printed anonymously in 1637 as a quarto issued by bookseller Humphrey Robinson.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Offsetting to the front endpaper. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
