The first edition.

A detailed history of Bodiam Castle, the fourteenth century moated castle in East Sussex.

The castle was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, who had been a knight of Edward III. 

This charming work was written by George Curzon, who bought the castle in 1916, and restored it before his death in 1925. Upon his death, Curzon left the castle to the National Trust.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, two folding plans, and thirty-one plates.

Collated, complete.

Bookplate of Gwendolen Jefferson to the front paste down.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine and joints are faded, with a little fading to the extremities. A few light marks to the cloth. Spots to the endpapers. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
