This volume brings together a great variety of poetry to be read at school at home, divided into four sections; 'For the Littlest Ones', 'In Wood and Dale and Fairyland', 'In Realms of Gold', and 'On Parnassus'.

Poems include 'Little Sorrow' by William Shakespeare, 'Cradle Song' by Lord Tennyson, 'Then' by Walter de la Mare, 'The Shepherd Boy's Song' by John Bunyan, 'The Ivy Green' by Charles Dickens, 'Pocahontas' by William Makepeace Thackeray, 'The Bells' by Edgar Allan Poe, and more. 

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, and seven plates, by Honor C. Appleton.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding with a pictorial onlay to the front board, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor spots to the fore edge. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Light edge wear to the dust wrapper, eavier to the head and tail of the spine with a small chip to the head of the front wrap. Spine is a little discoloured. A few small marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots. The occasional pencil mark to the margin of the contents.
