Listing for each subject a detailed account of bibliographical information, including the author's name, life, and works (where available). This work is supplemented by an index of authors, initials, and pseudonyms to guide the reader to the works of these authors. This set is a first thus edition of the 'New and Enlarged Edition' of this work, with volume I to VI appearing between 1926 and 1932, followed in 1934 by a final volume containing an index and a second supplement. Two further supplementary volumes however were issued later, the first being included within this set; published in 1956 and containing additions and corrections from 1900 to 1949. The second supplementary volume (volume IX) was published in 1962, containing additions and corrections to the period before 1900). Originating from the material collected by Samuel Halkett for a dictionary of anonymous English works, 'A Dictionary of the Anonymous and Pseudonymous Literature of Great Britain' was published in four volumes from 1882 to 1884, edited first by the notable bibliographer John Laing and then by his wife Catherine Laing after his death in 1880. This ' 'New and Enlarged Edition' was edited by James Kennedy, W. A. Smith, and A. F. Johnson to volumes I to VII, and by D. E. Rhodes and A. E. C. Simoni in volume VIII. This set is lacking the final supplementary volume IX.

Condition

In a uniform publisher's cloth binding. Externally, slightly bumped to extremities and head and tail of spines. Ink marking and sever damp staining to rear board volume I, with slight cockling to cloth. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd light scattered spotting to fore edge of the occasional page. Some spotting to first and last few pages. The odd handling mark to the occasional page. Tidemark and slight cockling to rear endpapers, volume I. Ink inscription to front free-endpaper, volume VIII.
