Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Spare, pristine spine label tipped in to rear. Translated into English from the original French. Number 348 of 1,000 copies printed. Honore de Balzac was a French novelist and playwright. He is regarded as one of the founders of realism in European literature. He wrote his two treatises on marriage, Physiologie du Mariage (The Pysiology of Marriage) and Scenes de la vie Conjugale prior to his own marriage. Therefore it has been noted that these works lack firsthand knowledge.

Condition

In original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Spine label is lifting slightly. Spare spine label is loosely inserted to rear endpapers. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Selbourne library stamp to verso of title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are untrimmed. Pages are very bright and clean.
