A beautifully illustrated Limited Edition of Tobias Smollett's literary work, first published in 1751. This copy is number two-hundred and ten of five hundred copies produced, in the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.
Illustrated with thirty nine full plate and vignette illustrations - in colour - from British illustrator and painter Vera Willoughby, who under the name Vera Petrovna created designs of ballet dancers. Collated, complete.
First appearing with Smollett's novel 'The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle', it provides an account of the life of Viscountess Frances Vane, known for her highly publicised adulterous relationships.
Condition
In the publisher's original vellum backed paper covered boards, and the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to board perimeters. Dust wrapper back strip age toned, with loss to head and tail. Tape reinforcement running the length of the dust wrapper to the reverse of back strip fold over front joint, with small closed tears to fold over rear joint. Small closed tears to head of rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
