The first edition of this work. Harvey, A59 a.

The second work of Ford's complex modernist tetralogy, following 'Some Do Not...' and preceding 'A Man Could Stand Up -' and 'Last Post'.

Ford's series chronicle the life of a member of the English gentry before, during and after World War I, and is set both in England and on the Western Front.

With a partially removed bookplate to the front pastedown.

Ford stated that his purpose in creating this work was "the obviating of all future wars".

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, fine. Spotting to fore edge of dust wrapper. Bookplate partially removed to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright. Instances of spotting and foxing throughout, most concentrated to the first and last few leaves.
