The first edition, first issue, correctly dated 1925 to the title page. In the secondary brown cloth binding.
In the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.
The first edition thus of this work, with the 1924 tale 'Circe's Island' appearing alongside the 1925 story about metamorphosis, 'The Faun'.
Both works are typical of the didactic philosophical fables, mainly based in Greek mythology, which Phillpotts wrote in this period.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, exceptional. Significant spotting to fore edge of text block. Dust wrapper age toned to back strip, with light spotting to wraps. Losses of paper to back strip head and tail, with closed tear to tail of front wrap, and minor small closed tears to head of rear wrap.
