Colour Plates, Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
This is a third edition copy, published in the same year as the first edition. Collated, complete with twelve beautiful coloured plates by the renowned Dutch illustrator of children's books, Henriette Willebeek le Mair. Le Mair was best known for her charming watercolor works, with their delicate, detailed drawings and muted flat color washes. Containing the following works: 'The Princess and the Apple-Tree' 'Sparrow Tree Square' 'The Twins' 'Miss Waterlow in Bed' 'Sand Babies' 'Poor Anne' 'A Voyage to India' 'Barbara's Birthday" 'The Baby Show' 'The Magic Hill' 'The Three Daughters of M. Dupont' 'Castles by the Sea'. This collection was the Milne's second children's book and his first book of prose for children. The work appeared between his best-selling poetry collection 'When We Were Very Young' (1924) and his first volume of stories about Winnie-the-Pooh, 'Winnie-the-Pooh' (1926).
Condition
In the publisher's cloth binding with coloured pictorial image tipped to the front board. Externally very smart, with minor shelfwear to extremities and head and tail of spine. Small handing mark to head of spine, resulting in small split to cloth and slight loss to gilt. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean, with only the odd light spot to the very occasional page.
