An extremely rare 1924 first edition account of 'The Story of Bakelite', the first man-made synthetic plastic developed in 1907 by chemist Leo Baekland. John Kimberly Mumford artistically weaves the story of Bakelite into a narrative spanning from the dawning of creation to the first alchemists, and finally to the use of Bakelite in the airplanes and radios of WWI.
Condition
In the publisher's paper covered boards. Generally smart but with some spotting to the extremities of the front and back boards. Some wear to the spine, concentrated to the head and tail. Minor handling marks at the front pastedown and free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with binding tender between pages 48 and 49. Pages are very bright and clean.
