Apuleius' 'Metamorphoses', or 'The Golden Ass', is the only Latin novel to have survived completely, and follows the protagonist Lucius as he has various exciting encounters with magic, his curiosity often to his detriment. It is complete in eleven books, containing all manner of magical anecdotes and occurrences.

From the translation by William Adlington from the sixteenth century. This was the work's first appearance in English, and was a favourite of Shakespeare's.

Complete with the original dust wrapper.

Illustrated with woodcuts throughout by Philip Hagreen.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely, with just a touch of wear. Dust wrapper has a little wear to the edges and the spine but is otherwise in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
