Description

Colour Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Elsie Oxenham was a very popular author of children's novels, publishing around eighty-seven books during her lifetime. She's best known for her 'Abbey' series, a series set in a romantic ruin of a school. Oxenham has been considered as one of the most important writers of girls' fiction, alongside Elinor Brent-Dyer and Dorita Fairlie Bruce, as they all wrote long book series. With a coloured frontispiece. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Anne Margaret A. Ross, French Prize, Jan 1925'.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. Sunning has caused fading to the spine and joints. Tidemarks to the boards. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine to the extremities. Bumping to the extremities has caused a little loss. A few marks to the rear board. Front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Anne Margaret A. Ross, French Prize, Jan 1925'. A little offsetting to the paste downs, to the recto to the front endpaper, and to the verso of the rear endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound.
