Jane Ellen Harrison (1850-1928) was one of the founders of modern studies in Ancient Greek religion and mythology. She used nineteenth-century archaeological discoveries to interpret Ancient Greek religion, which has since become a standard practice.
In this fascinating work, Harrison explores our literary debt to Greek mythology. She examines figures such as Poseidon, Demeter, Aphrodite and Zeus.
The first edition of this work is scarce to see, particularly in the original dust wrapper.
