Baroness Emma Orczy (1865-1947) was a Hungarian-born British novelist and playwright, best known for The Scarlet Pimpernel series. These novels featured the protagonist Sir Percy Blakeney, whose alter ego is an escape artist who rescues French aristocrats during the French Revolution. This series established the "hero with a secret identity" in popular culture.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, cloth is bright and smart, apart from a mark to the front board of The Scarlet Pimpernel and damp staining to the boards of I Will Repay. Internally, firmly bound. Ink inscription to the front free end papers of By the Gods Beloved, Lord Tony's Wife, His Majesty's Well-Beloved and The Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Pages are age toned but generally clean, with just the odd spot to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. A portrait of the author has been pasted to the dedication page of Lord Tony's Wife. Dust wrappers are mostly bright, except for a little soiling and shelf wear to Sir Percy Hits Back and A Son of the People. Chipping to the extremities of The Scarlet Pimpernel, I Will Repay and By the Gods Beloved, with closed tears to the front and rear of the wrap. Chipping to the head and tail of the spines to Lord Tony's Wife, The Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel, Sir Percy Hits Back. Amateur repairs to the rear of the wrap to His Majesty's Well-Beloved, and to the verso of the wrap to His Majesty's Well-Beloved, By the Gods Beloved and Nicolette.
