The scarce first edition of Charles F. Rey's discussion of Abyssinia in the first part of the twentieth century.

As General Manager of the Abyssinian Corporation, the author was prompted to write this book after reading derogatory reports of Abyssinia in the British press. He discusses the customs, practices, government, administration, church, language and animal life of the country, amongst other subjects.

Illustrated with a folding map to the rear and seventeen plates. Collated, complete.

In a quarter morocco library binding, with library bookplate to front pastedown, and library markings to verso of title page. No further library markings. With the bookplate of Anglo-Swiss financier Clinton E. Geiser to the front free endpaper.

The first edition of this scarce celebration of early twentieth century Ethiopia.

Condition

In a quarter morocco library binding, with cloth covered boards. A touch of discolouration to back strip. Library plate to front pastedown, with bookplate to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Library marking to verso of title page. Pages generally clean, with instances of light spotting, most concentrated to final few leaves.
